Mimicking the Masters: Alfred Hitchcock

One of the most famous directors of the 20th Century, Alfred Hitchcock was a masterful storyteller. Learn how to make films by understanding his unique approach to filmmaking. By studying auteur theory and analyzing the narrative and technical content of Hitchcock’s films, students will write, storyboard, shoot, and edit a short film inspired by a master of cinema. Students will need a camera, camera manual, notebook, and USB or Firewire cord.Making a Short Film: From Concept to Cutting Room.

Zombie Filmmaking Contest and Class Series


The Light Factory Contemporary Museum of Photography and Film presents American Zombie: Politics, Horror and George A. Romero’s Film Revolution, a tribute to the filmmaker who created Night of the Living Dead, the 1968 zombie film that changed the genre of horror. The retrospective to be held September 19-21, 2008 will feature question-and-answer sessions and workshops with Mr. Romero, and screenings of his work, including his latest film, Diary of the Dead (about a group of young film students who run into real-life zombies while filming a horror movie of their own.) .The event will also coincide with the 40th Anniversary of ground-breaking Night of the Living Dead. In addition, George Romero has offered to judge a Zombie Filmmaking Contest!

Zombie Filmmaking: Shooting and Editing with Tony Elwood
Course Dates: June 11, 17, 19, 24, 26
Times: 6-9pm.

Costs: $150 members/ $180 nonmembers

Tony Elwood directed the films Killer, http://killer.digital-wraith.com, Roadkill and Cold Storage. Tony will take you from pre-production to post-production in the creation of your Romero Contest Submission. He will advise you in applying your script, shooting your film, special effects, working with actors, and editing your film. This is a great opportunity to take your filmmaking to the next level with a pro in the horror/thriller genre! Screenwriting for Zombies is not a requirement. If you do not take this class, please come with a storyline and a script to share with Tony. Students may work individually or in groups on their Zombie projects. This class will be a lot of fun… you get to hang out with Tony Elwood and George Romero will watch your movie!!



Entry Fee- $30.00 (fee waived for TLF Zombie students)
Deadline- 08/11/2008
Total Running time-15 minutes maximum
Eligibility- All applicants must be a legal resident of the United States; also must be at least 14 years of age and older.
Submitting: Movies must be submitted via MAIL ONLY. Movies that are submitted must be in DVD format
Entry Form must be completed before submission “Failure to complete entry form properly will cause a delay for film consideration.”

Intellectual Property-By participating in this Contest, entrants will state that all intellectual property rights relating to their Entry Materials, including all copyright and trademark rights, and that the Entry Materials do no contain photos, images, music, or other elements not originally taken or created by entrants, unless entrants have obtained proper licenses to use such elements in their film. Entrants must identify materials that may infringe upon the intellectual property or other rights of another, including, without limitation, rights of trademark, copyright, privacy, and publicity that may infringe on the intellectual property or other rights of a third party.

Judging- Movies will be judged based on these areas: Content Originality (quality of storyline, and script) Production (Camera work, lighting, and shot composition), Post-Production (Editing, transitions, pacing, continuity, and flow), Sound Quality (Clarity, consistency of audio levels, and lack of noise), and Fear Factor (suspense, thrills, twists)

Contest sponsor reserve the rights to rebroadcast or show clips via (TV/Internet/or other forms of media)

 

Class Registration


REGISTRATION & PAYMENT: All classes must be paid for at the time of registration.  The Light Factory accepts cash, local checks, Visa and MasterCard. Classes are not refunded unless canceled by The Light Factory. If we are notified 5 days prior to the first class or session credit for the class will be transferred to future classes. Gift Certificates are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged for cash or credit. A $10 fee will be added to the class fee for any returned checks.
