SUMMER CAMPS 08'
The Light Factory offers summer camps in
traditional darkroom, digital photography, experimental photography, filmmaking,
and digital technology. Camps are broken into
categories by grades. We offer camps to rising 3-5 Grades, 6-8 Grades
and 9-12 Grades. Scroll down to view our full listing of summer camps

Satellite Camp “Funtography” Basic Photography and
Darkroom for rising 3-5 and 6-8 Grades summer camps through The Light
Factory are also available at Satellite Locations including Davidson Park

DARKROOM and EXPERIMENTAL PHOTO
Basic Photography and Darkroom for Youth
Session A Dates: July 7-11, 1:00-4:00pm
Session B Dates: August 11-15, 9:00-12:00pm
Rising 3-5 Grades
Location: The Light Factory’s Classroom/Darkroom
Costs: $195/members, $250/non-members-includes all lab fees.
Become a photographer and see the sights. The fun includes darkroom experience, photo excursions uptown and an introduction to different types of cameras and camera techniques. Students will learn how to make photograms, pinhole cameras, develop prints and create scrapbooks

This exciting class will explore creative projects using
photographic imagery. Class will include downtown photo excursions, thought
provoking assignments, and hands-on art creation. Students will use the
images they have taken to create books, puzzles, multimedia objects, boxes,
and much more.

B&W Photography I: Creative Approaches
Dates: July 14-18, 1:00-4:00pm
Rising 6-8 Grades:
Location: The Light Factory’s Classroom/Darkroom
Cost: $195.00/members, $250.00/non-members
See the world in a whole new light. Explore the art of black and white
photography through in-class assignments, outdoor photo excursions. After
inroducing you to the darkroom and traditional photographic techniques,
this class will teach you the creative techniques photographers use to
push their images to the next level. This class will teach you to advance
your photography to convey personal concept or moods using creative darkroom
and shooting techniques.

Learn basic camera for the digital age. Students learn hands on how to use their digital cameras and how to compose good photographs by doing class assignments and photo excursions. Students will learn the basics of Adobe Photoshop and digital image manipulation to improve the quality of their images.
Digital Photography I: Creative Photoshop

Now that you have the fundamentals down, learn the fine art of digital
photography in this course for teens. Students will expand their digital
photography skills by adding concept and stylistic mood to their images
through use of advanced shooting and editing techniques. Class will include
uptown photo excursions. Students will learn how to layer images to create
thought provoking collages and images.

DIGITAL FILMMAKING
Digital Filmmaking I: “One Minute Movie”
Dates: June 16-20, 1:00-5:00 pm
Rising 9-12 Grades
Location: The Light Factory’s Classroom/Darkroom
Costs: $225 members/$280 non-members
Make it short and sweet. Teens learn the fundamentals of film making.
In this five session class, students learn how to write a script, shoot
a short movie and how to edit using digital editing software. As a group
students will write, direct, shoot and edit a “One Minute Movie.”
Films are premiered during the last session of class. All friends and
family are invited for the viewing. Class size is limited to 8 students.
Filmmaking 2: Music Videos for YouTube
prerequisites: 1 minute movie
Dates: August 4-8, 1:00-5:00 pm

Location: The Light Factory’s Classroom/Darkroom
Costs: $225 members/$280 non-members
Bring your art and your favorite music to the masses. In this class you
will take the fundamentals of filmmaking you learned in Digital Filmmaking
for Teens to publish your videos online. You will learn advanced editing
techniques as well as how to post your video onto YouTube.
DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY
Animation 1: “1 Minute Cartoon”

Bring cartoon and photographic characters to life through
digital animation. Students will be introduced to procedures and techniques
for digital animation and editing using Adobe AfterEffects. Students will
be guided through their character development, background choices, and
storyboard development. Final animations are premiered during the last
session of camp. All friends and family are invited for the viewing.
Animation 2: Music Video Animation
Dates: August 11-15, 1:00-5:00pm

Location: The Light Factory’s Classroom/Darkroom

In this course students will work with Adobe AfterEffects to create animated
music videos. The class will discuss the way in which animations and musical
rythm can interact. Each student will be guided through their individual
animation in choosing character, color, timing, and much more. Various
animation styles and techniques will be taught throughout the course.
Final animations are premiered during the last session of camp. All friends
and family are invited to the viewing.

Introduction
to The Light Factory:
Gallery Tours and Darkroom Demonstration
Any group
interested in visiting The Light Factory is welcome to call and schedule
a tour and darkroom demonstration. We offer 15-minute gallery talks
for free as well as group tours which include activities designed
to educate and interest young people about the art on view at the
time and darkroom
demonstrations which are a basic introduction to photography. One
adult per 10 children is a requirement.
-Basic Tour:
$5
per student for a 60 – 90 minute tour. This includes a gallery
game and darkroom experience where students assist the instructor
in creating a different types of photographic prints.
-Enhanced Tour: $10
per student for a 60-90 minute tour. This includes a gallery game
and an individual darkroom experience where each student creates their
own photographic print to take home with them.
-Outreach-Teaching
Artist Programs: Prices for outreach photography and
film classes and workshops vary based upon each site, the program,
and the number of students.
