"SOUND + VISION"
March 24 -26, 2008
Neighborhood Theatre

The NODA Film Festival returns for its sixth installment with "Sound + Vision," showcasing bands performing their original soundtracks to silent films - live on the stage at the Neighborhood Theatre. Sponsored by P*U*R*E Realty.

This isn't your typical guy with a piano plinking along to some silent film classic. This is a fresh, 21st century experience. These are edgy, innovative, and inspiring soundtracks performed in a variety of styles by cutting-edge bands. They'll make you see the films - and hear the music - in entirely new ways.

We're especially proud to feature the legendary art punk band PERE UBU performing their acclaimed soundtrack to the science fiction classic "The Man with X-Ray Eyes." The following nights feature two of the most exciting groups from Charlotte's rich local music scene scoring silent films from around the globe.

Thanks to all our sponsors, supporters and film fans who came to the Charles Burnett Retrospective on the August 24-26th. The event was a huge success and Mr. Burnett enjoyed himself thouroughly. Be sure to catch the WFAE coverage below.

THE LIGHT FACTORY RECEIVES GRANT FROM FOUNDATION OF
ACADEMY OF MOTION PICTURE ARTS AND SCIENCES
Grant will fund a retrospective of Charles Burnett’s work

The Light Factory Contemporary Museum of Photography and Film is pleased to announce it has received a major grant from the Foundation of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the same Academy who presents Oscars to honor exceptional achievement in filmmaking. The Academy Foundation grant for $6000 will fund a retrospective of work by Charles Burnett, one of the most revered and esteemed African American filmmakers working today. The retrospective will coincide with the re-release of Burnett’s masterpiece, Killer of Sheep, fostered by Stephen Soderbergh (director of films like sex, lies and videotape, Out of Time, Traffic, Ocean’s Eleven).

Charles Burnett: A Retrospective will consist of three days of film screenings, lectures and workshops, attended and led by Charles Burnett himself. The retrospective will occur over three days from Friday, Aug. 24 to Sunday, Aug. 26, in venues that include The Light Factory, Consolidated Theaters, the Afro-american Cultural Center and Neighborhood Theater. The Light Factory’s project co-sponsors include Reel Soul Cinema and the NoDa Film Festival.

Film and video classes, camps, and seminar schedule for budding filmmakers.
