Call for submissions: In-the-Works Session at
Full Frame Documentary Film Festival 2008

The Southern Documentary Fund is proud to announce that we will again be collaborating with Full Frame in programming the In-the-Works Session at the 2008 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival in Durham, NC. The festival takes place from April 3-6, and the In-the-Works Session will take place on Sunday April 6.

The In-the-Works Session offers an unusual opportunity for professionals and non-professionals to view documentaries at various stages of production and participate in the critique process. The audience is encouraged to give constructive feedback about the structure, content, characters and clarity of the film in a post-screening discussion that will be facilitated by a moderator.

Submissions must comply with the following guidelines:

Must be made by North Carolina filmmakers
Must be in the final stages of completion
Must be a documentary
Filmmakers must be present at the screening
Must include contact information and a short description of the work

What do we mean by “In-the-Works?” We are NOT looking for rough string-ups, audio gaps, incoherent stories, etc. Your submission doesn’t need to be mixed and color corrected but should feel like a film with a story. We should be able to have a really good idea of where your film is going. There are no length requirements but we tend to screen features. In other words, submit your best cut! Be prepared for criticism that will be constructive but may feel harsh; the ultimate goal is to help you make the best film possible.

We’ll select 1-2 projects to feature, and may screen only a portion of the works. For consideration, please submit your project to The Southern Documentary Fund no later than Friday February 8, 2008.

Send submissions to:

Pangea Day

Now this is exciting. A powerful, 2-minute video has just
been given star billing at YouTube and I need your help to get
it to spread further&help;

The video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pl3xHIsvF9o) heralds the
launch of Pangea Day, called for by 2006 TED prize winner, Jehane
Noujaim. For the next 24 hours, it is being featured on
YouTube’s global home-page as well as all nine of
YouTube’s international home-pages.

Take a minute to view it, rate
it, write a quick comment about it and then blog it, or pass the link
along to friends. Each of these actions will have a multiplying
effect and will help us reach out to thousands of film-makers around
the world who we need to submit content for possible inclusion in
Pangea Day

The project is taking off, and its ambition level is spectacular. On
May 10, 2008 - Pangea Day - Jehane’s wish will come to fruition
as sites in New York City, Rio, London, Dharamsala, Cairo, Jerusalem,
and Kigali will be video-conferenced live to produce a 4-hour program
of powerful films - supplemented by visionary speakers, and global
musicians. The purpose: to use the power of film to promote better
understanding of our common humanity. A global audience will watch
through the Internet, television, digital cinemas, and mobile phones.

A powerful advisory board has come together to support the project.
It includes:
JJAbrams
Lawrence Bender
Nancy Buirski
lan Cumming
Ami Dar
Cameron Diaz
Goldie Hawn
Vik Muniz
Clare Munn
Eboo Patel
