Message from Marcie
Dear Friends,
This is a year of important anniversaries—The Light Factory is turning 40! And on July 1st I will celebrate my 10th anniversary as Executive Director of this great museum. I have made the difficult decision to make this 10th anniversary my last in my current role—returning to the role of dedicated volunteer for The Light Factory. I will leave my position late this summer to go back to the world of marketing that I came from in July 2002.
I am very proud of what we have accomplished over my 10-year tenure. In July of 2002, The Light Factory faced both financial and existential uncertainty. With a staff of only 2.5 people, located in a building with a leaking roof, with attendance of less than 10,000 annually and a budget less than half of today’s, we have been able to grow the museum into a proud top-tier member of Charlotte’s cultural community.
A talented and dedicated staff and Board of Directors are in place to allow the next phase for the museum to be as dynamic and fulfilling as the last. I can never give enough thanks to my past and present co-workers on the staff and Board for all of their dedication, wisdom, and camaraderie. I know that our friendships and work to see The Light Factory thrive and grow will continue.
I will continue to write in the coming weeks to talk about our 40th anniversary and about the search for my replacement, which is already underway.
Thank you for all of your support and dedication,
Marcie O. Kelso
